On 25 June, Croatians celebrate their national day, also known in Croatian as 'Dan državnosti'. This state holiday commemorates Croatia's declaration of independence from Yugoslavia on 25 June 1991.
Croatia was one of the six republics of Yugoslavia. Historically, it belonged to the Austria-Hungarian Empire until the latter collapsed at the end of World War I.
The declaration took place on 25 June, but Croatia officially became an independent nation on 8 October 1991.
Moreover, Croatia will soon celebrate the anniversary of its EU-membership, since it joined the Union on 1 July 2013.
There are currently 47 Croatian speeches on Speech Repository, of which 25 that are public and 22 that belong to My Speech Repository.
