National Flag Day in Romania is celebrated on 26 June every year. The national day was established in 1998. According to the Constitution of Romania, “the flag of Romania is tricolour; the colours are arranged vertically in the following order from the flagpole: blue, yellow, red.” The history of Romania’s national flag can be traced back to 1821, during the Wallachian uprising, when all three colours were featured on the canvas of the revolutionary flag.
The 3 colours symbolise 3 Romanian provinces – Wallachia (yellow), Moldavia (red), and Transylvania (blue).
