In Bulgaria, 3 March is an important day: the country’s Liberation Day. On 3 March 1878, the Treaty of San Stefano was signed. This treaty ended the war between Russia and the Ottoman Empire and proclaimed Bulgaria’s independence. This holiday is at the start of spring and is widely celebrated. A military parade is held and people gather in the streets to watch, waving flags and cheering. Schools organize storytelling sessions where they tell children about the heroes of the nation that contributed to the country’s liberation. All children wear a white shirt on that day. At night, the skies of Bulgarian cities are illuminated by mesmerising fireworks.
We did not want to miss the opportunity to wish our dear Bulgarian friends a happy Liberation Day. And for those who want to practice interpreting from Bulgarian, you will find a Bulgarian section on the Speech Repository with top-quality speeches prepared by SCIC interpreters and trainees.
