1st June: Global day of parents
It may not be the first thing that springs to mind when talking about parents, but I’m sure we can all agree they gave us something invaluable: our native languages. The ones we learnt without putting too much effort into it, just by listening to them from the day we were born. Not only did our parents’ choices have an impact on our lives, they also shaped our linguistic background. They gave us their accents, taught us our first words and corrected us when we said something wrong. As if this gift weren’t enough, families also pass on their own genuinely unique vocabulary and sayings. Can you think of any of yours?
Meanwhile, if you feel like honouring your native language by practising your interpreting skills, we highly recommend the section of our Speech Repository dedicated to the family!
