Denmark is a country in Northern Europe, the southernmost of the Scandinavian countries. It consists of a peninsula, Jutland, and an archipelago of 443 named islands. It lies southwest of Sweden and south of Norway and is bordered to the south by Germany. The Kingdom of Denmark is constitutionally a unitary state comprising Denmark and two autonomous territories in the North Atlantic Ocean: the Faroe Islands and Greenland.
Grundlovsdag or Constitution Day is celebrated in Denmark on 5th June and the Danes commemorate the signing of the first Danish Constitution on 5 June 1849. Denmark does not have an official national day, but Grundlovsdag is often considered as such. Political rallies and public meetings take place throughout Denmark in celebration of Danish democracy, and the Danish flag, the Dannebrog, will be flying from all public buildings.
Albeit a small country, its influence has reached many corners of the world. Did you know that Jørn Utzon, the architect of the Sidney Opera House, and Søren Kierkegaard, one of the most influential philosophers of the 19th century, are Danish?
