Happy International Workers’ Day!
Today, May 1st, we celebrate the fruits of hard-working men and women across the globe and we commemorate the struggles the working class endured to achieve humane working rights and conditions, such as eight hour a day shift, reasonable wages and gender equality in the workplace.
Albeit being a widespread national holiday, the International Workers’ Day has been historically linked to the communist ideology and the fight against capitalism. In the Soviet Union, this commemorative day was one of the most important public celebrations of the year, when communist governments organised spectacular military and civilian parades aiming to demonstrate the strength of the proletariat.
