On October 12th, Spain celebrates its national day. This national holiday was first celebrated in 1935 and made official in 1981. This day marks the arrival of Christopher Columbus in the Americas on 12 Oct 1492. It is also the official Spanish language day. Therefore this day is also celebrated in many Spanish-speaking countries on the American continent. Spanish, a language spoken around the world, is the official language of 21 countries on both sides of the Atlantic and the second language in many others like the USA. It is the second most spoken language in the world and it is spoken by more than 538 million people globally.
Whether you are from Spain, another Spanish-speaking country or simply learning Spanish, there is always a good reason to practise your interpreting skills with the language of Cervantes. October 12th is a good opportunity to visit our Spanish section full of great speeches for every level.
On our behalf, we would like to wish all our Spanish-speaking friends a wonderful 12th of October!
