05/06/2020

Celebrated on 6 June, Sweden National Day commemorates two historic events that took place on this date and paved the way for the foundation of modern Sweden: the election of King Gustav Vasa in 1523 and the adoption of a new constitution in 1809.

Sweden is well known for its welfare state, its music culture and the sense of civic duty of its citizens. But while the first things that may come to mind when thinking of Sweden are probably ABBA and IKEA, it is worth noting that the country also has an incredible coffee tradition! The word fika, used both as a noun and as a verb, can be loosely translated as “coffee break” and it is something you will have to try at least once in your life! And don’t forget the Kanelbullar (cinnamon rolls).
