On 7 June, we observe World Food Safety Day to draw attention to and inspire action to prevent, detect and raise awareness about food-borne risks, and thereby contribute to food security and overall human health. The European Institutions, the European Food and Security Authority (EFSA), the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) jointly facilitate the observance of this day.
Access to safe food on a global level is key to sustaining and promoting good health. Food safety plays a critical role in all stages of food production – from harvesting, through processing, to storage and distribution.
World Food Safety Day was established to strengthen efforts to eliminate food-borne diseases and raise awareness to ensure the food we eat is safe.
