World Health Day 2021

06/04/2021

Celebrated on 7 April, World Health Day aims to raise awareness of the importance of global health in general while shedding light on a specific health theme every year. The World Health Organization (WHO) created the day in 1948 and started implementing it in 1950. Each year, the WHO chooses one of its priority areas and draws worldwide attention to this specific health-related matter. In accordance with this year’s theme, “Building a fairer, healthier world”, the goal is to increase awareness for health inequities and to advocate for the elimination of these injustices.

Some of the focal points of World Health Day in the last decade included the work of nurses and midwives during the COVID-19 pandemic, a universal health coverage, mental illnesses such as depression, the fight against diabetes, food safety, heart health or antimicrobial resistance.

If you want to learn more about health-related topics and practise your interpreting skills at the same time, we propose you choose one of the 478 public speeches or one of the 284 restricted speeches on the domain of health in our various languages on the Speech Repository.
