Today is World Malaria Day,
Although mosquitos that are home to Europe are an utterly irritating, annually returning phenomenon driving everyone crazy, their bites are fortunately not lethal. At the same time, especially tropical and subtropical areas have been haunted by a particularly dangerous species, namely Anopheles gambiae, which is one of the root causes of malaria infections. If patients are not treated, the virus turns deadly and, unfortunately, 500.000 people succumb to this disease every year. In order to raise awareness and gather support for a global malaria response, the UN spearheaded by the WHO campaigns for more stringent action in the fight against malaria.
