World Youth Skills Day (15 July)

13/07/2023

Eight years ago, in 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared 15 July to be World Youth Skills Day. This celebration aims to highlight the importance of providing young people with the necessary skills to access decent work opportunities and to enable them to contribute to shaping a sustainable world for all. In fact, education is more important than ever as technological advancements and the current climate challenges require more and more highly skilled and adaptable workers.

This year’s theme is ‘Skilling teachers, trainers and youth for a transformative future.’ It acknowledges the essential role played by teachers in training the youth so that future generations can enter the labour market and get involved in their communities.

In the context of international cooperation, interpreter trainers play a crucial role in providing conference interpreting students with high quality training to enable a new generation of accredited interpreters to assist the EU in its multilingual decision-making process.

If you want to practise your interpreting skills and keep learning about this topic, we encourage you to check out the Education, Training, Youth section of the Speech Repository.
