US Presidential Election 2020

03/11/2020

Today is the Presidential Election Day of the United States of America!

Americans and just about everybody in the world are holding their breath to find out if the incumbent Republican President, Donald Trump, will manage to retain his office in the White House or if the Democratic challenger, Joe Biden, will be able to snatch it out of his hands.

For now, early polling suggests that Joe Biden is leading, but as we all know, Presidential Elections can be quite the rollercoaster ride in one of the world’s most influential countries!

What are the main differences in each of the candidates’ political agendas?

  • On climate change, Trump is determined to stay out of the Paris Climate Agreement and wants to ramp up investment in fossil fuel extraction, whereas Biden wants the US to reach zero emissions by 2050 and would automatically request to re-join the Paris club.
  • On economy, Trump wants to deliver tax breaks to high-earners and companies in order to safeguard the job market in the country, whereas Biden is pushing for a federal minimum wage of 15 USD and wants to raise tax requirements for wealthy companies and individuals to collect more money for public spending.
