on 21 February, we celebrate International Mother Language Day!
People often think that speaking foreign languages is an essential skill for an interpreter and, especially at the beginning of our interpreter training, we tend to focus on perfecting the languages we work from. However, mastering the mother tongue is of paramount importance for a good interpreter. At the European Union, interpreters mostly work into their native language and keep honing this skill their whole life.
